Nerdery Mansion

Nerdery switched gears from its typical "Nerdery Hotel" venue to have an "upscale" Nerdery mansion held at the Minneapolis Club. With that venue, we had no choice but to theme it around Clue.

Was it Professor Plum? With a lead pipe? In the billiard room? The Nerds started the app game when they walked into registration where Mr. Body's crime scene was. From there, Nerds would follow clues shown on the evidence tags throughout the building. Each evidence tag that was found had a scannable QR code. Once scanned, an evidence tag on your screen would flip over to reveal a person, place or thing with a number.

Once they found the evidence tags needed, the bottom tag on the phone flipped over and shook, informing the user to go to the phone booths. A code decipher hung from the phone. When they called, Mrs. White picked up and explained how she did it. She would give you a password code to the safe that you found in the Library. The open safe had a QR code that once scanned would add you to a drawing for a new 55" smart TV.

Party deliverables

Nerdery Hotel

A tradition at the Nerdery holiday party is to switch name tags throughout the party. For the night, you could be the CEO of The Nerdery or Captain Kirk. I, for one, have always been interested in where my badge ended up. So, we created a game where you can track your badge. We added iBeacons around the hotel so you could search where people were. I could search for a friend, and once I got their name tag, I could post pictures or messages on their event timeline.

Overnight Website Challenge

I was the sole designer for the Overnight Website Challenge for five years. I was part of a small committee that brought web pros and nonprofits together for a 24-hour challenge to make websites for nonprofits in need. I simultaneously planned and managed three cities’ mixers, events, and awards nights. I designed signage, presentation decks, advertisements, social media, maps, pamphlets, prize tickets, a swag bag, and more. I worked with vendors directly to create items for the swag bag, like t-shirts, mugs, sunglasses, playing cards, scout books, name badges, and sleep deprivation “hang-over” kits.

Nerdery open house

The Nerdery holds various open houses throughout the year for its remote offices. I designed the necessary event elements, including welcome signs, signage, z-folded maps, standees, food indicators, and table tents.
